Victoria Tane

Victoria Tane Studios & Headbenz®

Jewelry featuring vintage, antique, and recycled elements

About the Artist

Artist, entrepreneur, inventor and jewelry designer for more than 20 years, Victoria Tane creates a diverse line of accessories, using natural, recycled, and vintage elements. An avid recycler, she is inspired to find new uses for old things not generally associated with jewelry. Her work features old chandelier crystals, pencil eraser caps, peach pits, driftwood, telephone wire, old buttons, machine parts, and even, rabies tags. She seamlessly integrates these objects into her jewelry to create elegant, affordable and wearable art. Asked where she gets her ideas, she replies, "I never look at the way things are. Rather, I always look at the way they could be." Much of her inspiration comes from individual clients who bring her single earrings, broken strands of beads, and odd pieces of costume jewelry for redesign and repair. She is able to integrate and rework her extensive inventory of loose beads and findings into almost any design project.

Victoria and her partner Tim travel to 26 fine art and craft shows a year in their 1966 Vintage Airstream Sovereign Land Yacht which Tim lovingly restored. In keeping with their decisions to recycle and live as green as possible, the “Stream” as they call it, uses 2 marine batteries which are charged by a solar panel that Tim installed where the old TV antenna was. This allows them to crank the handle from the inside and position the panel for maximum solar power.

In addition to jewelry design, Victoria is the inventor of Headbenz®, a patented, adjustable, headache-free, headband and choker necklace. Victoria has successfully marketed Headbenz® on the QVC shopping channels both domestically and in the UK and to date has sold over 115,000 pieces. Articles about her and her invention have appeared in the The Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix, Inventor's Digest, The Nashua Telegraph, Accessories, and Accent Magazine. She has been a guest on Boston area television and radio. In December of 2003, Victoria was featured as Inventor of the Week on the MIT-Lemelson Institute website. In July of 2006, she was awarded "Best New Artist" at Corning, New York's Gaffer's District Festival of Art.

An educational theater major at New York University, she concentrated on set and costume design. She graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in elementary education. Over the years she has combined her jewelry business with a love of teaching, hosting jewelry making workshops out of her studio and volunteering her time as an artist and lecturer in schools throughout New England. Victoria sells her work at fine art and craft shows and on her website, www.victoriatane.com.
