Silk Painting is an ancient art form of oriental origins. In the early part of the twentieth century, the technique of silk painting was brought to Western Europe by Russian artists fleeing the Revolution. France soon developed a reputation for producing the finest silk dyes which are still in demand today.
Our silk was originally woven for veils in the Middle East. This unique weave is known for its exceptional sheen and luxurious feel. After the silk has been stretched similar to a painters canvas, the highest quality French dyess are applied by hand using water color techniques.
Nicole Curl was born in Lyon, France (silk weaving center of Europe) and studied her art at the Ateliers Creatifs. While in Paris, Nicole furthered her pursuit of silk painting with many of the most famous silk painters in Europe. After travelling throught out the world, Nicole married an American and settled in Southern Califorinia. Nocole's designs have been accepted in the most prestigious juried competitions throughout the country.
Jan Marie Lanier was born in Detroit, Michigan and gre up in North Florida. After receiving degrees in Marketing and Design from Florida State University, Jan soon discovered a love for silk painting. This passion led her to the silk weavers in China and to the silk painters of Paris. Jan has lectured at many art schools across the country and has been recognized as one of the prominent silk painters in the United States.
