I have been using pewter to create art for over twenty years, ever since graduating from Florida Atlantic Uniersity with a bachelors degree in Fine Art.
I create unusual oil lamps and functional pewter jewelry. I execute all my work in the ancient "cire perdue" (Lost Wax) technique. This is an extremely time consuming method, but it allows me to capture the smallest detail.
I am a certified Lapidarist, and cut many of the gemstones and quartz crystals used in my pieces. These pieces are quite intricate and can involve as many as fourteen separate castings which I assemble and weld together with a gas torch.
Every day I reach for the unusual -- something other artists have not yet attempted. As a result of this focus, I hold fifteen copyrights on my unusual ideas and concepts.
I am President of the Carolina Pewter Guild, past Vice-President of the Winston-Salem Craft Guild, a longtime member of the Carolina Craftsmen, the High Country Crafters, and the Virginia Mountain Crafts Guild. Additionally, I am the North Carolina reporter for the national magazine, "Sunshine Artist." I have exhibited nationally and won many awards.
