Drawing and painting have been part of Nancy’s daily life since her father, a professional photographer and artist, began teaching her and encouraging her abilities. Private instruction was followed by an art degree and now over twenty five years of creating and exhibiting her work.
Nancy’s watercolor paintings begin as freehand pencil sketches inspired by the nearly three hundred and fifty species of birds and the abundant wildflowers which inhabit the Lake Erie shoreline of northwestern Pennsylvania. Using hairline brushstrokes, Nancy creates the detailed textures required to depict feather vermiculation, leaf veining, or animal fur. Her paintings are given added intensity as she uses layers of color to achieve depth and dimension. Major paintings require months of work from composition to completion and even smaller pieces require several days of concentrated effort.
Over the years, in addition to being an exhibitor at the Sugarloaf Mountain Craft Festivals since their inception, Nancy has seen her work published worldwide by Wild Apple Graphics, a leading publishing company. Her work has been used on a variety of products from calendars and puzzles to ceramics, fine floor coverings, and clothing. She also continues to publish select pieces in very small editions for her collectors and patrons. Exhibiting in two dozen events annually provide the opportunity to obtain Nancy’s original paintings, prints, and pencil sketches directly from the artist.
