Carolyn Leung
The Bittersweet Pottery Company was founded in 1976 by Carolyn Leung. A native of New York City, she attended Pratt Institute, where she discovered a love of graphics and an affinity for handbuilding in clay. Her basic tools are an Exacto knife, a 12" rolling pin and a sense of design, so that each piece of pottery is a unique, one-of-a-kind work, different from every other. "My use of stoneware is a study and exploration of textures and contrasts, whether natural or contrived, the use of repetitive textures, the juxtaposing of smooth and rough to create a visual interest. The surface is further enhanced with colorants, concentrating on earth tones. "Each time I touch the clay, I search for something new and different - but I'm still pursuing the perfect pot!"
