Stan & Virginia Gula
We founded our business in 1985, after returning to New England from California. We left corporate America behind! We now live in a log cabin in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. We build the banks in our barn. We "became bankers" when we started our own collection of postal door banks. It is our way of saving American history...

We use all avenues to find and purchase our postal doors, some dating from the mid- 1800’s. This occupies more time than we care to admit! We once drove 1000 miles, dismantled an entire post office, and were back home in 3 days! Another time we removed doors from storage in a cow barn... of course there also was a chicken coop, the creepy dirt cellar...and on & on with stories.

Our coin banks are truly a gift for all ages. Our owners include men, women, and children.
We are enjoying our life, and try to impart some of our knowledge to future generations, of days gone by...

We use only oak to make our banks. Our cabinets are the finest in the world. Every cabinet is made using the highest-grade select northern oak. Each is precision cut with mitered joints. Each style of door demands a specific size cabinet. The weight of each door style also dictates the size of the cabinet. The cabinet must be counter-weighted enough so it is not front heavy when opened. We router our edges, sanding frequently between each step. Every cabinet is then stained, inside and out, capturing the authenticity of "days gone by". Several coats of lacquer are applied, and hand rubbed to a museum finish of the highest quality, observing the highest standards of workmanship. Many years of research and trial have gone into building the perfect cabinet and replicating the surface finish of the period.

Our United States postal lock box door banks are of museum quality. All the doors we use are original. Some of them date back into the mid- 1800’s. We obtain them by various efforts throughout the United States, commanding a lot of time, money and effort. Each year the doors become more rare and harder to find. Every time we find a different style we must research the patent as to date and company of origin. We offer the largest collection of historical doors/banks in the U.S., to the public.
