Dan Day

Dan began his art career at the early age of 13. Over the years he worked in various mediums including bronze and precious metals. Although not formally trained, he experienced hands on training in sculpture and jewelry production techniques and develops his own designs.

After building his sculpture and jewelry business into a successful career, he began searching for a better medium to suit his new ideas. He learned to weld and found working with steel satisfying. In 1980 he pursued his new concepts in earnest. Dan sought to bring steel artwork into a new era. The rough hewn work that he saw didn't appeal to him.

Each Dan Day sculpture is unique. Designs are drawn on new carbon steel plate for the most precise detail possible. They are then cut with an oxygen acetylene torch. Each part undergoes extensive grinding and filing until the edges are clean and smooth. They are hammered into shape and assembled into a three dimensional sculpture.

While Dan continues to exhibit and sell his raw metal designs as well as the stainless and corten style finishes, the majority of his work now emphasizes colorful painted designs. No other metal artist has the quality or diversity that Dan shows in his work. He is a professional in command of his medium. Collectors easily perceive the quality and style of his work.
